Chekhov Theatre Ensemble

The Chekhov Theatre Ensemble is an award-winning performance group comprised of Stages of Learning’s teaching artists. Based in the work of legendary acting teacher Michael Chekhov, the Chekhov Theatre Ensemble produces works that afford teaching artists similar “life changing” experiences to those they provide Stages of Learning students. Just as Stages of Learning engages all children in classrooms, the Chekhov Theatre Ensemble produces an annual season tailored to engage all Stages of Learning teaching artists in professional productions. This practice allows Stages of Learning to retain the best and the brightest teaching actors and to nurture them as both teachers and artists.

Additionally, the production preformed by the CTE becomes a part of the Stages of Learning in-school program. A scene is selected and becomes the Lecture Demonstration, where the students get the opportunity to direct the actors in the scene. This gives the students to utilize the vocabulary they have learned, and see and understand the rehearsal process.

For the 2009-2010 school year the Chekhov Theatre Ensemble presented William Shakespeare’s Macbeth on October 30, 31st and November 1st at Queens Theatre in the Park.
